Handmaiden Music: Handmaiden Music
Judge Not
(Elizabeth Stephens)
Matthew 7:1-5
Note: This is a *spiritual law* that is in effect as much as a "physical law", such as the law of gravity. Therefore it is WISE to learn and follow it.
Judge not,
that you be not judged.
Judge not,
that you be not judged.
For with what judgment you judge,
you will be judged.
And with the measure you use,
it will be measured unto you.
And why do you look at the speck (tiny sliver) in your brother’s eye,
But do not consider the plank (huge board in comparison) that is in your own eye.
Or how can you say to your brother,
“Let me remove the speck from your eye”,
When look, a plank is in your own eye.
Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye
Then you will see clearly
To remove the speck from your brother’s eye,
Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye
Then you will see clearly
To remove the speck from your brothers eye
(Repeat from beginning)
Ending:
Judge not,
Don’t be a hyprocrite.
Judge not,
Or you’ll be judged.
Judge not,
Remove your own plank
*Judge not.
Judge not.
Judge not.
(Repeat * to end)
Music Teacher Lesson: Judge Not (Some Help To Obey)
As a parent would declare “Because I said so!” When a child asks “Why?”…It can be frustrating to the child, to obey…unless HE SEES THE TRUTH…and the HEART OF THE PARENT…in regard to His command. Especially a tough one…like this one...
Therefore, to help you understand this command of Jesus, I personally want to share something the Lord revealed to me in a mini-vision…that gave me understanding of spiritual truth related to this song. He IS indeed a loving and patient parent, WILLING to give his kids "insight" into why He's commanding this obedience of his children.
(smile)
Here goes:
I saw an image of an Oreo cookie... you know the sandwich type cookie with dark hard outsides and cream filling inside? (it came and went like a snapshot from a camera).
The Lord then said, “Elizabeth, each of my children are like an Oreo cookie.” (you can be sure he had my curiosity with that!)
He taught me saying, “You can be sure that I am “consuming my children” …no matter what YOU see…making them more like me…as I work in them through my Spirit.”
He continued, “This is why you can’t compare yourselves to one another. Who you are, or what you do, need not be compared with any other. In fact it isn’t wise even to compare yourself to how YOU think you are doing. Just rest assured I AM at work.”
As I pondered what He said, I thought of the Oreo cookie and this is what I saw clearly in my imagination:
Some Oreos…The Master is soaking in milk for awhile until they are mushy, then they are consumed by him. (pause and picture this Oreo being eaten, in your mind)
Some Oreos… The Master opens up, and the inside is consumed first…then the exterior is taken care of. (pause and picture this Oreo, in your mind.)
Some Oreos, The Master nibbles on the outside edges little tiny bit at a time, moving toward the center, relishing every tiny bite, consuming both exterior and interior…great flavor. It seems to take forever…to the Oreo. But the master is enjoying it. It gives pleasure to him. (pause and picture this, in your mind)
With some Oreos, the top outside is pulled away and eaten separately first, then the middle may be licked until it is no more, and then the other outside layer is consumed. (pause and picture this Oreo, in your mind)
Some Oreos, may be a combination… a little soaking, a little nibbling, a little lick to the interior, a little bite to the exterior. Yet they ARE being consumed by The Master.
Some Oreos, are ground up to a rough or a fine powder…ouchy, ouchy, ouchy…will it ever stop! But then they laid down as the foundation to an awesome dessert, soon to come forth. (Picture this…)
Oh, the possibilities are endless…as we see… HOW an Oreo is cookie is consumed…
SO TOO, TRUE BELIEVERS are CONSUMED BY THE LORD…IN DIFFERENT WAYS…SO WE CAN NOT COMPARE! WE CAN NOT JUDGE one another.
The truth is, The Master determines this “process” in each of us. How much he consumes, and what areas of our lives he takes control over first, and next, is HIS WORK IN US. We are HIS workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works. Right?
Now LET’S SEE IT SPIRITUALLY:
Perhaps you are a person whose inside is worked on first (i.e. his heart issues) and you still have your exterior (your behavioral issues) to be totally consumed by God. How do you feel when you are judged by, or are comparing yourself to, someone who has had an outer layer (something exterior reflects God for all to see) but yet has his heart yet to be dealt with?? You feel INTIMIDATED.
But should you be? NO…God’s just doing something different in the other person. Actually God may view you as being further along spiritually than the other one, for He knows he has your heart even though he doesn’t have your habits yet. But your intimidation comes because you are looking on the exterior of the other “cookie”, who looks “so fine” in comparison.
Now, let’s say it was turned, and now you become the one judging someone who is being nibbled a little at a time…as far as God consuming him…because the work looks so incomplete…and is taking so long. You see what is not yet nibbled, right? How are you likely to feel?
PROUD, SUPERIOR, SELF-RIGHTEOUS!
But should you be? No…God’s just doing something different in the other person. He’s taking his time with them. He’s handling both inside and outside issues together, consuming bit by bit that person, but they are a wonderful masterpiece even as he nibbles away. He has his purpose in going slowly.
And let’s take the one soaking in the milk for awhile… He looks around and everyone is judging, “Is he ever going to get on with God? Is he ever going to be consumed and become like Christ?” yet all the while Father has the perfect plan at work, he’s making him so mushy (open and aware of God; disgusted and repentant of his sin) that in God’s timing he will be consumed in one big gulp!! HOPE COMES! THAT COOKIE CAN BELIEVE “GOD DOES DESIRE ME!”
Yet how do brothers and sisters make him feel? FEAR, ABANDONMENT, NEGLECT
He’ll never cut it, they judge. What’s to become of him, they declare in judgment.
WHO DO YOU THINK GOD IS JUDGING? Those who are judging…not the immature guy who is getting mushy cause the Spirit IS at work if he’s received Christ.
Oh no, maybe you’re the one being ground into the little pieces of Oreo. “God stop the trials! God help…consume me so this doesn’t hurt so much! I’d rather you just took over here! Where are you? I want you to consume me!” “God too has his purpose… Perhaps something delicious that others can partake of too?… (that dessert? That we’ll be a part of?)…is perhaps on His Mind… He knows what he’s doing!
Do you see the analogy, as simple as it is?
As you ponder it…you will see why Jesus says, Judge Not.
As you ponder it…conscience will see that what is important is our letting God consume US. It is to judge ourselves lest we be judged. It is to make ourselves available to GOD…not make ourselves as a GOD to others, in our judging of them. Have you been "playing Holy Spirit", taking on a role that is only his?? Then Stop! Let God take care of that neighbor, that co-worker, that cousin, that wife, that child, that husband, etc.
You see that bad fruit – both in us, and in others – results when we JUDGE…such as the intimidation, pride, fear, discouragement, self-righteousness, arrogance, hopelessness, despair, etc. that is described above.
Do you SEE?
Only God can be the one to JUDGE.
Only God knows what HE is doing, and is going to do…
Only God can judge.
Even Jesus’ purpose was not to judge but to redeem us….that God could have us fully again…that HE might consume us, each and every one, and that we be ONE with him.
May you go forward from this day on, and Judge Not.
The world may not change, but YOUR WORLD will change. (smile)
